Istanbul Modern, Turkey’s first and biggest contemporary art museum, was established in 2004 in a former port warehouse. Soon it is going to get a new home, situated at the museum’s original location in the trendy youth neighborhood Karaköy! It was designed by Renzo Piano, a Pritzker Prize laureate and a world-renowned architect. He is the mastermind behind such outstanding museum buildings as the Centre Pompidou, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centro Botín, and the Fondation Beyeler Museum. The new Istanbul Modern building, in addition to the exhibition halls and spaces for various events, will feature educational studios, a cinema, a library, a store, and a café with a restaurant.
