According to The Hiscox Artist Top 100 study, which tracks the main trends in the contemporary art market, the top-selling works at auctions in 2022 were those of African artist Aboudia (Abdoulaye Diarrassouba). In total, 75 pieces by the artist were auctioned off. Thus, Aboudia surpassed Damien Hirst (73 pieces) and Edgar Plans (65 pieces). When it comes to the cumulative auction value of the sold pieces, David Hockney leads the way with his works sold for $75 million. The overall sales volume of Hockney’s pieces exceeded those of Yoshitomo Nara ($49 million) and Cy Twombly ($46 million). The value of Banksy’s pieces, who led in sales for the past five years, plummeted by 73% in 2022.
