A new model has been added to the range of Air Command ladies’ sports watches. It echoes the legendary Blancpain aviation watches of the 1950s. The layout of the counters and tachymetric scale on the dial, as well as the shape of the luminescent hands and hour markers, the piston-type chronograph buttons and the glassbox-type sapphire crystal are all reminiscent of the original watch. The model features two different timekeeping modes: a flyback chronograph and a rotating bezel with countdown function. Despite its vintage look, this is undoubtedly a 21st century watch. The blue dial and ceramic bezel inlay, the matt sunburst finish on the dial, the alternating satin and polished finishes on the case – all have a modern and elegant look. The 36.2 mm diameter case houses an F188B self-winding movement whose vertical coupling ensures silent activation of the chronograph seconds hand as well as smooth and optimal stop/start functions. Equipped with a silicon balance spring, the movement also features a column-wheel system, ensuring smooth movement when starting or ending a measurement and when resetting the counter. The openworked rotor and movement, decorated with circular graining, chamfers and a snail-shaped pattern, are visible through the back of the watch.
Available in either 23 grade titanium (an exceptional quality rarely used in watchmaking) or red gold, the Air Command is complemented by a blue calfskin strap with white stitching.
