From July 9 to August 20 Halkidiki is again hosting a music festival which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. A full, open-air, jubilee programme awaits the public on the Sani hill. Above all, there will be jazz musicians performing. In fact, the Jazz on the Hill chamber concerts were the starting point of the present Sani Festival in 1992, which over the years has developed into a big and vibrant music event with stars from all over the world. Traditionally, the programme will focus on Greek music. In addition, for the first time in the history of the festival, the genre palette will be enriched by the participation of rock and pop musicians. The festive musical marathon will finish with the landmark Andrea Bocelli concert.
The Jazz on the Hill concerts will feature two legends of Afro-Cuban music, the pianist Chucho Valdes and the saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera (9 July). The following Saturday, July 16, virtuoso Al Di Meola will take to the stage with his guitar trio. The Greek favourite, vocalist Jack Savoretti, will delight fans with his lyrical melodies on July 23. One week later, rock singer Bob Geldof and his band The Bobkatz will light up the Greek night. Over the next two Saturdays, the musical baton will be taken over by renowned national Greek artists, with a programme specially created for the anniversary of the festival. The concerts will feature Manolis Mitsias, Hristos Thivaios, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Penny Baltatsi, Dimitris Basis, Rena Morfi, Doros Dimosthenous, Rita Antonopoulou, Kostas Thomaidis, Kalliopi Puska.
One of the world’s most celebrated tenors, Andrea Bocelli, will perform on 20 August. Acclaimed as an icon of the greatest Italian vocal tradition, the maestro has succeeded in bringing classical music to the top of the world rankings with albums such as Romanza, Sacred Arias, Sì and Believe. Celine Dion once said: “If God had a singing voice, he would have to sound like Andrea Bocelli.” In 2020, at the height of the pandemonium, the maestro performed Music of Hope in the deserted Milan Cathedral. This is the one of the biggest live music performances of all time. The Sani Festival is honoured to welcome an artist of such calibre to a concert that will mark 30 years of the festival’s history.
All performances take place on Sani Hill, next to the Sani Beach Hotel.
