For the first time in the history of the UAE, the streets, parks, and waterfront areas of Abu Dhabi hosted the International Public Art Abu Dhabi (PAAD) Biennale. Artists from not only the Emirates but also from other countries around the world created more than 50 unique installations in the public spaces of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Among the works is an installation by Arab artist Farah Al Qasimi of four oyster-shaped sculptures, created to commemorate the tradition of pearl diving. It’s called Homesickness, and quiet music pours out of the speakers built into each of the pearls. The biennale will run until April 30.
