The Upper Garden at Peterhof has been fully restored after four years, and now it is presented to visitors in its authentic historical appearance. Experts used the mid-1770s drawings by French engineer Pierre-Antoine de Saint-Hilaire to restore the garden’s 18th-century layout. During the restoration, new trees were planted, old ones were treated, and the historic sewer running beneath the garden was refurbished. Spread over 14 ha, the area features five ponds equipped with fountains. The garden’s sculptures now include a horizontal sundial modeled after 18th-century designs, featuring a gnomon with a weather vane on a marble face.
